How to Start Forex Trading in the Philippines, Step by Step
Open your first forex account in the Philippines by checking the broker against the SEC list before you send any money.
Updated Sep 2026 · how we rate brokers
Search the broker's legal entity on the SEC Philippines list of registered entities before you compare spreads.
Brokers verify this before the first withdrawal, not at signup.

Small first deposit, and withdraw to the same account you paid from.
At the size you intend to use for real — otherwise it teaches nothing.
Brokers usually also ask for proof of address. Requirements differ per broker — the account-opening page lists what that firm accepts.
Check the broker against the SEC Philippines list before anything else
Start by opening sec.gov.ph and searching the SEC Philippines list of registered entities for the company behind the app or website you are considering. If the name is not there, stop and do not send money. The SEC has published advisories against unregistered forex platforms, so this check is the first step, not the last.
Registration is not a guarantee of profit or of good service, and it does not tell you whether a platform is right for you. It only tells you the entity appears on the public list. Confirm the current position yourself, and check whether the BSP has any say over the product, before you treat any platform as allowed.
Do this before you download anything or hand over an email address. It takes a few minutes and it removes most of the trouble people run into later.
Set up your funding rail and your trading account in the right order
Most Filipino beginners fund with GCash, and Maya, InstaPay, PESONet, bank transfer and card are also common. Open the broker account first, then look at the broker's funding page to see which of these it actually accepts and what the deposit and withdrawal rules are. The funding page is where the real numbers live, so read it there rather than trusting a screenshot or a comment thread.
Keep your GCash or Maya account in your own name and matching the name on your broker account. Mismatched names are a common reason withdrawals get held up. If you use bank transfer or PESONet, check the processing time on your bank's app before you assume the money has arrived.
Do not fund the account on day one with an amount you would miss. Start with something small enough that a delay or a mistake will not hurt, and treat the first deposit as the cost of learning how the plumbing works.
Learn the session clock in PHT before you place a trade
Forex runs around the clock, but the liquid hours are not spread evenly. In Philippine Time, Sydney runs 06:00 to 15:00, Tokyo 08:00 to 17:00, London 16:00 to 01:00, and New York 21:00 to 06:00. The London and New York overlap, 21:00 to 01:00 PHT, is the busiest window of the day.
That overlap is convenient if you work evenings, and awkward if you start at 6am. Pick a session you can actually watch rather than forcing yourself into a 3am chart. Consistency matters more than catching every move.
Before you trade live, spend time on a demo account during your chosen session. Watch how price behaves at the open of London or New York, and note how wide the moves are. You are learning the rhythm, not hunting a setup.
Place your first trade small, then review it like a student
Your first live trade should be the smallest size the broker allows, on one pair you have watched for a while. Set a stop loss before you enter, not after. Write down why you took the trade in one sentence, because if you cannot explain it, you probably should not take it.
After the trade closes, win or lose, review what happened against your written reason. Most beginners lose money in the first months through position size and impatience, not through a lack of indicators. Keep a simple log of date, pair, reason, result and what you would change.
If you want structured learning, courses on stock trading, real estate broking or custom broking are widely available in the Philippines, but they cover different markets and different licences. They will not teach you forex execution. For forex itself, the broker's own education pages and a demo account are the cheapest starting point.
Take your time between steps. There is no deadline on opening a first account, and the people who rush the SEC check or the funding page are the ones who end up filing complaints.
